Pottery Class: Throwing Wheel for Beginners
This workshop offers an introduction into the three main steps of creating your own ceramic piece on the Throwing Wheel. Within four sessions over a period of three weeks we will teach you everything you need to know to create your own ceramic pieces.
1. Session: Tuesday 6:30-9:00pm
Short introduction into the world of clay, followed by a demonstration of how to prepare and center the clay on the wheel as well as how to create a vessel. Afterwards you’ll have some time to try yourself.
2. Session: Wednesday 06:30-8:30pm
The first time at the wheel can be challenging, that‘s why we will have a second session for throwing planned. You‘ll have 2,5h to repeat what you have learned the day before and get familiar with the techniques of working at the throwing wheel.
3. Session: Tuesday 06:30-9:00pm
This day will be all about trimming the pieces you created the week before. You will learn how to refine the shape of your vessel and create different types of foot rings for your creations.
4. Session: Wednesday 06:30-8:30pm
One week later after your pieces have been fired once, we will take some time to glaze your pieces together. A teacher will explain how to prepare a piece for glazing and demonstrate how to use different techniques like dipping, cross-dipping, puring or brushing to add some color to it. Afterwards you will have enough time to try out all techniques for yourself.
How to prepare for the class: For the classes you might want to wear something you wouldn‘t mind getting a little dirty as well as shorten your finger nails. We will provide an apron and everything that's needed for every participant.
Pick-Up: Finalizing your pieces might take between 3-6 weeks. Once your pieces are ready, you will be notified via email and might pick up your pieces during our Open Studio Hours on Thursdays between 5-9pm.
